How to choose marine care products

Add only what testing shows is missing, and change doses in small steps.

  • Stability first

A slightly lower but steady level is better for corals than a sudden swing.

    ARKA Hydrometer with Thermometer
  • KH, Ca, Mg

Test these three regularly, because corals use them all the time.

    Microbe-Lift AIP-Away – Aiptasia Remover
  • Water changes

Mix change water from RO water and check salinity before adding it.

Frequently asked questions

Balling method or ready-made supplements?

The Balling method suits reefs with higher demand, ready-made supplements smaller tanks. Either way, regular testing comes first.

How do I get rid of aiptasia?

Apply the remover straight onto the anemone, leaving the rest of the tank untouched. Repeat as needed until they are gone.

In a reef tank, corals and other invertebrates constantly use calcium, carbonates and magnesium to build their skeletons. If these are not replaced, the levels fall and growth slows. The products in this section help return what has been used, prepare water for changes and feed the corals.

The Balling method adds three separate solutions, usually with a dosing pump, which makes sense when corals consume a lot. In a smaller tank, ready-made supplements are an easier start. Trace elements and amino acids support coral colour and growth but do not replace keeping the main parameters steady.

The most common mistake is adding something that has not been tested, or correcting too quickly. Test KH, calcium and magnesium regularly, write the results down and change a dose only once the trend is clear.
