Frequently asked questions

How many tablets at once?

As many as the fish eat within a few hours. Remove leftovers by the next morning.

Do bristlenose plecos need wood too?

Many plecos rasp on wood, so a piece of driftwood is useful for them. Vegetable wafers remain their staple food.

Fish and shrimp that live near the bottom do not rise to the surface for flakes and often go hungry once the other fish have eaten everything. Tablets and wafers are dense and heavy: they sink quickly and hold together in the water for a good while, so bottom feeders can graze on them at their own pace.

Choose tablets by diet. Plecos and other algae eaters need plant-based and spirulina wafers, carnivorous catfish more protein-rich food. In a mixed community, a wafer mix is convenient. If you keep many bottom dwellers, spread the tablets over several spots so that shyer fish also get their share.

If surface fish grab the tablets for themselves, feed after the lights go out. Watch whether the bellies of your bottom dwellers look rounded: it is the clearest sign of whether there is enough food.
