Frequently asked questions

How do I catch a fast fish?

Use two nets: guide the fish into one with the other. With the light off, fish move more calmly.

Should nets be disinfected?

Rinse the net in clean water after use and let it dry. For a sick fish, keep a separate net for the quarantine tank.

Now and then a fish has to come out of the tank: to rehome it, quarantine it or move it to a new tank. Every catch is stressful, so the quicker and calmer it is, the better. A net of the right size shortens the chase and lowers the risk of injury.

Choose the net size by the fish and its width by the tank: a net that is too wide will not fit between plants and decor. In a tall tank a telescopic handle helps, and a sturdy frame does not bend in the water. A rectangular shape reaches into corners where fish often hide.

A common mistake is chasing a fish round the tank with one net until it is exhausted. Use two nets, or catch with the lights off when fish are calmer. Keep a separate net for sick fish and rinse nets after use.
