Aquaforest Natural Substrate Nutrient Substrate 7.5 l

Aquaforest Natural Substrate is a nutrient-rich peat and clay based substrate for planted aquariums and aquascapes. It creates a fertile environment for aquatic plants.

The substrate is intended for planted freshwater aquariums.

According to the manufacturer, the natural cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the peat and clay absorbs excess nutrients from the water. It then makes them available to the plants through the roots or releases them back into the water once levels drop. The substrate can lower and stabilise the pH of the water, so monitor the pH with a test or probe. According to the manufacturer, 10 l of substrate is enough for a 200 l aquarium with a 100 × 40 cm bottom.

Spread the substrate on the bottom and compact it into a layer of about 2–2.5 cm. Cover it with about 3 cm of gravel or sand, then gently add about 15 cm of water, directing the stream onto a plate placed on the bottom. Then plant and fill the aquarium. As the substrate is rich in micronutrients, Aquaforest does not recommend fertilisers containing micronutrients for the first three months unless the plants show visible signs of deficiency.
