Tropica Aquarium Soil

Tropica Aquarium Soil is a complete substrate for setting up a new planted aquarium – it can be used without any other bottom layer.

The soil is made of naturally occurring volcanic minerals. The 2–3 mm grain makes planting easy and, according to the manufacturer, gives favourable conditions for root development. The soil lowers the pH and slightly affects the water chemistry.

Work out the amount in litres as length × width × layer depth in centimetres, divided by 1000. For example, a 90 × 60 cm aquarium with an 8 cm layer needs 43.2 l of soil. Make the layer thicker towards the back wall so the layout looks deeper. For the first 4 weeks after setting up, change 25–50 % of the water at least twice a week.
