Mayaca fluviatilis is a stem plant from South and Central America. Its very soft, flexible stem and narrow bright green leaves give it a light, graceful look.
It prefers soft, slightly acidic water but also does well in medium-hard water. On Tropica's difficulty scale it is a medium plant (Medium).
According to Tropica, after two months in the aquarium the plant is on average 15–30 cm tall or more. Light demand is medium. CO2 demand is medium. The plant comes from North America.
It branches readily and grows fast, so regular pruning is needed; shoots turn very pale if it lacks iron. The stems of the bunch are held by an anchor – remove it, split the stems and plant them apart. Tropica does not grow bunches at its own nursery: keep them 2 weeks in a tank with water changes twice a week before adding shrimps.
The plant is sold as a bunch.
