Kruger Meier Crimson Ember Lava Substrate 4-8 mm 2 kg

Kruger Meier Crimson Ember Lava is a rust-red porous substrate made of natural volcanic lava.

It is meant as the bottom layer in decorative and planted aquariums and works as a base under gravel or sand.

The grain size is 4–8 mm and the pack holds 2 kg. The porous structure gives nitrifying bacteria a surface to settle on and so supports biological filtration. The lava improves water movement through the substrate, which reduces dirt build-up and oxygen-poor zones. According to the manufacturer it does not change water parameters. The rust-red tone forms a backdrop for the gravel layers above.

The lava is pre-rinsed, but the manufacturer recommends rinsing it again before use. Lay it on the bottom as the lower layer and cover it with gravel or sand.
