JBL Test PRO PO4 Sensitive Phosphate Test

JBL Test PRO PO4 Sensitive is a sensitive colour test for measuring the phosphate (PO4) content of aquarium water.

It is needed when the aquarium is fertilised – high phosphate levels can be dangerous to fish, and excess phosphate leads to uncontrolled algae growth. The result helps you dose fertilisers so that the macronutrients in the water stay balanced.

According to the manufacturer the test shows phosphate from 0.02 to 1.8 mg/l in nine steps. The manufacturer recommends 0–0.4 mg/l for a community freshwater aquarium and 0.1–1.5 mg/l for a planted aquarium with few fish. For marine aquariums the manufacturer recommends 0–0.1 mg/l and for ponds below 0.05 mg/l. One set is enough for about 50 tests.

Test weekly in a new aquarium and when algae problems arise. Add the reagents to a tube of sample water, place the tubes in the comparator and read the result off the colour scale.
