Riccia fluitans is a liverwort found worldwide, 1–5 cm tall; Japanese aquascaper Takashi Amano inspired many to keep it submerged. The plants are grown from tissue culture in a closed cup.
As a traditional floating plant it gives good cover to young fish. On Tropica's difficulty scale it is a medium plant (Medium).
According to Tropica, after two months in the aquarium the plant is on average 3–5 cm tall or more. The plant has a medium growth rate. Light demand is medium. CO2 demand is medium. The plant is found all over the world.
To keep it down, tie it to a stone with fishing line; new shoots always grow towards the surface, so pruning with scissors may be needed. It thrives with added CO2, and in good conditions small oxygen bubbles form on the leaf tips.
The plant is sold in a 1-2 Grow cup.
