Aquaforest AF Bio Sand is a natural white sand for marine aquariums that comes with nitrifying bacteria. According to the manufacturer, it speeds up the maturation of the aquarium.
It suits a new marine tank, where according to the manufacturer livestock can be added sooner, and a mature tank as a substrate supplement.
According to the manufacturer, the sand is free of contaminants and its calcium carbonate helps to stabilise water chemistry. The bottles hold laboratory-isolated strains of nitrifying bacteria and a nourishment for them. The grain size is 0.5–1.5 mm or 1–2 mm.
The manufacturer recommends rinsing the sand in RO/DI water before use to avoid cloudy water. Pour both bottles into 3 l of saltwater, mix, add to the sand bag and leave for 24 hours; the optimal temperature is about 25–28 °C. Add the sand to the tank a little at a time and monitor the water parameters.
Available in a 10 kg bag with two bottles of bacteria.
